It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
