Tehran is prepared to restart nuclear talks with Washington on condition that it is handled with "dignity" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has stated.

Abbas Araghchi stated exclusively dialogue worked, and shared new appeals had come from go-betweens to reopen discussions with the American leadership. He claimed Iran possessed no undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran was not yet able to authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to access bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.

Walking a Complex Course

Araghchi is navigating a difficult course since Iran does not want be seen to be operating from a stance of vulnerability, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had emerged more resilient defensively and mentally from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was addressing at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to refine atomic fuel domestically that it will never give up" – the key factor of the impasse in the previous talks.

Previous Negotiations Suddenly Ended

The prior phases of talks between the US and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, struck Iran's enrichment centers in a two-week conflict that ended with Donald Trump claiming the sites had been destroyed. Subsequently, EU nations exercised their authority to restore UN-wide sanctions, but Iran maintains they have not had a significant effect.

Ideal Resolution Offered

Iranian officials claimed they felt they had reached a "magic solution" to the uranium processing matter in earlier negotiations, when it was decided an local partnership with Washington's engagement could refine atomic fuel. The two nations would have been able to claim victory since local refinement would have remained and the US could be confident that Iran's enrichment initiative was entirely non-military.

It had not been agreed in the negotiations that American atomic experts could work inside Iran, but that was a reasonable assumption of the partnership suggestion. Diplomats claimed three times they had reached agreement with the US representative the US official only for the arrangement to fall apart due to "opponents in the US".

Existing Position
